Kentucky State Police Offer Safe Driving Tips for Thanksgiving Travel

Published on Nov 20, 2012 at 7:29 pm in Auto Accident.

Holiday Travel SafetyThanksgiving is one of the busiest travel days of the year in Kentucky, and it’s also one of the most common days for accidents. Over the Thanksgiving weekend, the Kentucky State Police estimate that over 1,000 motorists are involved in accidents. A dozen or more die in any year, and hundreds more are injured.

In order to help drivers get to their holiday events safely, the Kentucky State Police offer the following tips for safe driving:

  • Buckle up. Most of those who lose their lives in Thanksgiving car accidents aren’t wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. Make sure everyone is wearing a seat belt before you put the car in drive.
  • Use appropriate child seats. Like seat belts for adults, child safety seats offer needed protection in a crash. Make sure your child’s safety seat is the proper size for your child, and make sure it is installed properly.
  • Prepare for your trip by making sure you know your route, and allow plenty of time to travel. Leaving an hour or two early can help you deal with the unexpected, like traffic congestion or bad weather, without creating an urge to speed or take risks that might cause a crash.

If you’re injured in a car accident this Thanksgiving, you don’t have to deal with the aftermath alone. Experienced Louisville car accident lawyer Tad Thomas can help you with every step, from filing an insurance claim to pursuing compensation from any negligent parties who may be responsible for your injuries.
