Tad Thomas - Thomas Law Offices

Tad Thomas, a successful trial lawyer from Kentucky and one of the co-founders of Lawyer Minds, interviewed about his career and what he’s learned as a trial lawyer. Beginning with his decision about choosing this profession, Thomas talked about reading an article about a lawyer named Frank Haddad. Inspired by similarities in upbringing and Haddad’s tenacity when fighting for his clients, Thomas spent some time working for Haddad and the law has been his career ever since.

As an experienced trial lawyer, Thomas provided insight into what he’s learned during his time practicing law. He talks about how he’s gained more knowledge from cases he’s lost than cases he’s won. He also speaks to developing a gut feeling after representing clients for more than 20 years. Driven by standing up for clients, Thomas talks about how this fuels him to give these cases all his best efforts because he knows how a successful trial will benefit the client.

Experience has also given Thomas the opportunity to hone outlines, see what resources work best for him, and to pinpoint his favorite moments in a trial. With the right resources and confidence in the courtroom, Thomas is able to present the case with authority and poise.

While most would think having a career as a trial lawyer is a serious business, the job isn’t without its more lighthearted or joyful moments. But whether it’s a funny remark from a judge or the elation of having a successful outcome for a trial, Thomas’ dedication is always at the helm and he’s back to fighting for the next client as soon as he’s able to get to a computer.

He advises new trial lawyers to join organizations that will give them resources to develop and learn more. These are the tools lawyers need to help them be successful and get positive results for their clients. These organizations also help protect the people lawyers spend their days fighting for.

Law isn’t Thomas’ only passion. He was also involved with the Louisville Free Public Library. By providing free access to information and education, it’s providing an opportunity for anyone who takes it to learn.
