On Tuesday, August 9th, our very own Tad Thomas was interviewed by John Ramsey on WAVE 3 News’ Listens Live! segment which airs on weekdays here in Louisville from noon to 1 P.M. Tad was interviewed in an 8-minute segment where he talked about the success of Thomas Law Offices, the cases we help clients obtain justice for, and one area of personal injury law Tad is very passionate about– nursing home abuse and neglect. John Ramsey asked Tad for his expertise on senior care facilities.
Topics of discussion included how families can best go about choosing a safe facility for an aging loved one, the importance of skilled staff teams at senior care facilities, and how to know when a family member might not be getting the best care in a facility, especially in instances where the family member may be unable to verbally express how well they’re being cared for. Tad discussed some of the physical warning signs of neglect and abuse as well as the fact that in many cases we’ve handled at Thomas Law Offices, family members were not always told about wounds like bedsores that their loved ones had.
Tad also detailed some of the questions family members should ask facilities when it comes time to sign the paperwork for admitting a loved one to a nursing home. Asking the right questions and thoroughly reading the paperwork given is vital. He also discussed arbitration agreements and why signing one can potentially be harmful. Doing so may effectively give away a family’s right to pursue civil litigation and a jury trial in cases where their loved one may be getting abused or neglected.
Finally, Tad talked about what options a family has when they feel their loved one may be getting abused or neglected in a facility and what steps they should take before speaking to an attorney.
