Tad Thomas Interviewed About Sexual Assault Cases on WAVE Listens Live!

Published on Sep 21, 2022 at 1:45 pm in News.

This week, Tad Thomas of Thomas Law Offices was invited back to join John Ramsey on WAVE 3 News during his Listens Live! segment which airs weekdays in Louisville. In August, Tad was interviewed on the segment about senior care facilities and how family members of residents in facilities can help protect their loved ones. This time Tad was interviewed about sexual assault cases.

During the interview, Tad discussed how Thomas Law Offices helps guide victims of sexual assault through the legal process and helps them start the process of recovery. The recovery process often consists of help and services in addition to legal aid. Tad also talked about the differences between a civil sexual assault case and a criminal case. In many instances, a civil case brings to light more details than the criminal case alone– details and facts that can make a major difference in the victim’s ability to recover and help put a stop to future crimes.

Tad also talked about how civil sexual assault cases can bring about changes in laws and legislation that can better protect victims. One recent example is a law that was put into place that stopped some employers from including nondisclosure statements in work contracts to stop employees from publicly discussing instances of sexual assault that occur. When victims aren’t allowed to speak up about what happened, instances of assault are effectively allowed to continue without major ramifications. When victims have a voice, justice can be upheld and the assault can come to an end.

There is still work to be done to improve laws surrounding how sexual assault is handled in our nation, but the more we have open, honest conversations about the faults in our systems, the more improvements we can encourage.
