Wow, is 2016 over already? Talk about a busy year that moved quick! But, looking back on the past 12 months, we certainly seem to have done a year’s worth of work and then some. 2016 was a good year for us, and I hope the same was true for you. We helped many clients with cases big and small and I announced that I was running for Parliamentarian of the American Association for Justice. At the very end of this year, our own Lindsay Cordes was installed as President of the Women Lawyers Association of Jefferson County.
So here we are — a successful year behind us, and another one on the horizon. And it’s the middle of the holidays, which mean family, friends, and lots of food. At least, that’s what I always look forward to — and what I remember best about Christmas as a kid. Then again, family was always around since we lived on the acreage that my grandfather bought, along with my aunts and uncles. They all built houses on that original plot of land, and Christmas lunch was a high point of the year for us.
I hope you have similar plans this time of year. Take the time to enjoy this season while we have it. It can be a break from our busy lives and a time to reflect on 2016 and start planning for 2017. I won’t lie — as hectic as parts of 2016 were, this coming year will be even busier. I’m going to be traveling a lot, whether for my son’s ice hockey trip to Detroit, the AAJ election in Boston, seminars all over the country, or out-of-state depositions. When I’m not on the road, I’m going to be in the courtroom, arguing on behalf of our clients and getting them the justice they deserve. I love being in court, which is good because we have many trials scheduled next year.
After writing all that down, I can’t help but look at it and be grateful for my amazing wife — who supports me and tolerates my busy working life. Without her, I simply couldn’t do it.  I know many of you feel the same way about members of your own family, or your friends. Do me a favor — before we’re out of the gate in 2017, spend time with your loved ones this Christmas and tell them how much they mean to you. In this busy world, they’re what’s really important.
