Giving Thanks to the Clients of Thomas Law Offices

It’s a good time of year to talk about the things all of us at Thomas Law Offices are thankful for. Thanksgiving is a truly American holiday, and everyone can celebrate it. Whether your family came over in the early days of the nation or were relatively recent immigrants, we can all take this time to be grateful for our history, our stories, and our country. At Thomas Law Offices, we’re always thankful for our own families and for the blessings we’ve had in our lives. But the one thing we’ve been thinking about a lot this year are our clients — and for them, we are very thankful.

Let me tell you a personal story. Being an attorney means that I meet people from all walks of life and represent their interests in our judicial system. I have clients who are rich and clients who are poor. I have clients of all different religions. I have black clients; I have white clients; I have clients who are Latino and clients of Arab descent like myself. In my daily work, I get to know people from every part of town, and each year, I meet people from every part of our country. I love this diversity, and I’m grateful that I get to help all of these people.

One of my favorite memories of a client was of an elderly woman who I had the pleasure of representing a while back. Working with older folks is great because they remember how things were, and I learn a lot from them. This lady found out about my grandfather and my relation to the old Louisville Haymarket, and she told me about how she knew him. He’d be sitting on a stool at the end of the day, behind the cash register, always ready with a “Hello” for his customers. She even remembered how he made up his own little short poems using someone’s name and making it rhyme. I was very happy to get to know her and to hear that she remembered my family with fondness.

On the other end of the spectrum, I have clients with young families, and I get to hear about the next generation — from a child’s first steps to their first days at college. These connections are a big part of why I enjoy my work. I feel privileged that my clients trust me with their best legal interests while they raise their families.

And I’d be remiss not to mention another recent client, an Afghani freedom fighter who fought the Taliban at the side of our own troops. He acted as a translator — a very dangerous job — because he believed in democracy and wanted to see it in his own country. He now lives here in the United States, bringing his idealism and work ethic to his new home.

Thanksgiving is about the founding of this country and being thankful for what we have. This Thanksgiving, I’m thankful that I get to represent my clients. They represent what’s best about America. It’s a place where different cultures gather in a democracy and freedom, sharing ideas and building something together.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, everyone, and remember to remain thankful every day for the blessings we have in our lives,

– Tad Thomas
