Despite the City of Louisville taking efforts to make the journey into the Churchill Downs track on Derby Weekend safer, Miller Transportation was involved in a fatal bus wreck collision on the morning of the Kentucky Oaks Race, May 4th, 2018. Unfortunately, this is not the first time that Miller Transportation has been involved in an injury accident on Kentucky Derby weekend. In fact, Thomas Law Offices successfully pursued a claim against Miller Transportation and its bus driver for an auto collision that occurred on Derby Weekend 2015. In that claim, Thomas Law Offices filed a lawsuit against Miller Transportation and secured justice and fair compensation for our client for the injuries she suffered as a result of the negligence of Miller Transportation and its driver.
The recent May 4th, 2018 crash involved a pedestrian, multiple cars, a limo-bus and a coachline-style Miller Transportation bus that was carrying Oaks day patrons to Churchill Downs. The wreck occurred at about 10:20 a.m. on Seventh Street and Arcade Avenue, just a few blocks from Churchill Downs race track. While the details of the wreck are still unclear, police believe a northbound car on Seventh Street hit a limo-bus turning on to Arcade Avenue causing the car to lose control, enter the southbound lanes and hit the large bus which ended up in a parking lot. Two additional motor vehicles were hit in the wreck.
Unfortunately, a man who was on the sidewalk at the time of the collision was struck and died at the scene. A person in one of the cars had to be rescued from his vehicle by the jaws of life. The condition of the other patrons involved is not yet known.
