Richmond Baby Survives after Car Crashes Through House and into Crib

Published on Mar 9, 2011 at 6:17 pm in Auto Accident.

A baby survived after an SUV crashing into her home tossed her from her crib in Richmond, Kentucky, according to MSNBC.

The SUV struck a road sign and drove through a wall of a home, where three children were sleeping while the parents were in the living room. The crash caused a 10-month-old infant to be tossed from her crib and through a wall and a door frame. The baby’s parents feared she was dead, but she was found underneath the front bumper of the SUV, wrapped in a blanket. She was scratched but was not seriously injured. The exact cause of the accident is unknown. Police do not think the driver was intoxicated or had fallen asleep at the wheel.

Although it’s unclear what precisely caused this accident, it may have been the result of distracted driving. In today’s busy, high-tech world, drivers have an array of gadgets, such as cell phones, mp3 players, and GPS devices that all compete for their attention while driving. In 2009, about 20 percent of all car crashes where someone was injured reportedly involved distracted driving. About 5,500 people were killed in 2009 alone in a distracted driving-related accident.

Every Kentucky car accident attorney wants motorists to remember that they have a duty to drive with reasonable care to prevent accidents and injuries to other drivers. This includes avoiding distracting behaviors that could cause an accident.
